English First Peoples 12
Welcome! English First Peoples 12 meets the requirements for a BC Dogwood diploma. The course is grounded in the First Peoples Principles of Learning and is designed for all students, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, who are interested in delving deeply into First Peoples oral and written literature and visual texts in a range of media. The course focuses on the experiences, values, beliefs, and lived realities of First Peoples as evidenced in various forms of text, including oral story, poetry, song, performance, film, and prose. A key feature of the course is its focus on authentic First Peoples voices (i.e., historical or contemporary texts created by or with First Peoples). English First People’s 12 is equivalent to English Studies 12 for BC post-secondary meets the requirements for BC post-secondary entrance requirements. If applying outside of BC, check with post-secondary institutions directly.

Projects
Projects allow you to make some choices on how you wish to enhance your understanding. As you work through units, look for projects that will enhance your understanding in areas or interest and/or weakness. Some projects include peer-editing tasks. Please connect with a current classmate.
Resources
You will need to find either a novel, memoir or biography to read for the course. Please connect with a library to help you find your selection.
You might also need to access a documentary from outside the course. Connect with your school librarian to inquire about movie titles included with district film subscriptions.

Completion Policy
Students have 45 days to complete the initial assignment (also known as the substantive assignment). If a student fails to submit work within 45 days they may be withdrawn from the course. If for some reason you have not started the course within this timeframe but wish to remain in the course, please reach out to your teacher to communicate your learning plan.
Once enrolled students have up to 1 year to complete their course.
