K-9 Program Overview

PLEASE NOTE: The K-9 Online program is only available to families who can prove they reside within SD48 boundaries.

In the K-9 Sea to Sky Online School program, students are supervised at home by their parent or guardian and the education program is developed, supported, and provided online by a Sea to Sky Online teacher. Depending on the age and needs of your child, teachers will be using Google Classroom as a learning platform. It is here where students and teachers will engage in learning activities, posting questions/communicating, and scheduling learning dates and times. If you are not familiar with Google Classroom, we invite you to learn more here, or to  visit our district website under Parent Resources as well as the online K-9 learning menu.

Communication with students and families will include email, face-to-face (in person meetings, if your child is comfortable doing so), video conferencing (Google Meet or Zoom), and ongoing online exchanges through Google Classroom. Again, depending on the age and needs of your child, communication methods will develop as students and teachers familiarize themselves with one another.

In this program, students will work with their SSO teacher to develop a Student Learning Plan. This may involve contributions from family and other local school staff who know and understand your child’s learning needs and goals. It’s expected that SSO teachers will collaborate with local school staff to continue with existing learning plans to personalize their learning. If your child has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), we will be in contact with Learning Support Staff at their local school of record to ensure the goals of the IEP continue, with additional learning support being provided for known or emerging needs.

The K-3 SSO program will include a Literacy focus (speaking, reading, writing), a Numeracy focus (computation, problem solving, applied math), Cross-Curricular Project Based Learning (PBL) / Inquiry and Daily Physical Health Education and Career Education (CLE) activities. Similarly, the 4-9 SSO program will progressively focus on subject areas as they pertain to the Ministry of Education's curricular standards and outcomes.

All students will develop an electronic portfolio through our district’s online My Action Plan (MAP) model.
