Social Studies 10

Course Outline:

Welcome to SS 10. This course focuses on Social Studies knowledge and skills. Students will explore several areas of study involving history, geography and political studies. Students will continue to develop Social Studies competencies in the areas of:

Analysis of historical significance.

Assessing primary and secondary evidence.

Explaining continuity and change.

Assessing causes and consequences of events and decisions.

Explaining differing perspectives and worldviews on past or present issues.

Making reasoned ethical judgments about the past and present.

Course Topics:

Introductory Unit

Unit 1: Canada on the International Stage

Unit 2: Political and Economic Systems

Unit 3: Chinese Canadian Legacies in BC

Unit 4: Canadian Culture and Identity

Course Grading:

Introductory Unit – 5%

Unit Assignments – 30%

Quizzes – 15%

Unit Exams – 25%

Learning Guides 25%

Student Responsibilities:

To complete all assignments to the best of their ability (partially completed assignments will not be accepted)
To complete assignments in the order in which they are assigned, unless given written instruction otherwise
To review the feedback given on assessed assignments and complete corrections as required
To maintain regular contact with teachers
To work within mutually agreed upon time frames
To ask for help and clarification when needed
