Philosophy 12

 

Course Outline:

Philosophy 12 is an academic course that prepares students for academic post-secondary studies. Students will complete five units on various topics. Students will engage in philosophical discussion in forums via key word posts, complete unit learning guides and unit inquiry projects. Strong reading and writing English language skills are recommended, but there are no required prerequisites.

Unit 1 - Methods of Research

Unit 2 - Nature of Reality

Unit 3 - Knowledge and Truth

Unit 4 - Society

Unit 5 - Morality and Ethics

Unit 6 - Philosophy

 

Course Grading:

Learning Guides - 20%

Projects - 80%

 

Learning Guides & Labs:

Before you start unit projects, you must submit the unit’s Learning Guide. 

 

Projects:

 As you work through units use the projects to enhance your understanding in areas or interest and/or weakness. If you wish to explore another area of interest within a topic area, feel free to propose your idea to your teacher. 

 

Keys to Success: 

  1. Actively work through each lesson, trying examples and reflecting on material. 
  2. Use the Learning Guide as your tool for documenting your understanding. Lay it out neatly and well organized. 
  3. Make sure you understand all project requirements. If you can’t figure it out – ASK! 
  4. Be sure to use your Moodle message system for regular communication with your instructor.
